Essays taken from a weekly newspaper column published in the Washington County News, Washington, Kansas. Look for my book, "Dispatches From Kansas," available from Amazon.com, or from the author.
This one is terrific - almost like a jigsaw puzzle, or a study in geometric shapes. At first it felt busy, but then, the more I looked, the more all of those "lines" began to distinguish themselves from one another. I can't quite decide - is the dark "space" a shadow, a "thing", or an opening to the building itself?
I don't know why I had the impulse to stop by, but as soon as I got here and saw that new header photo - WOW! What a beauty. We'll see very faint sun dogs here from time to time, but nothing like this.
Have you ever explored the site called Atmospheric Optics? I've learned so much there about wintertime phenomena, particularly.
I'll check out the link, Linda. Thanks for dropping by. You guys might be too warm to get sundogs, something that makes me want to come see you sometime soon...

Linda, it's the shadow of a grain bin. It sort of looks like a portal, doesn't it?
