Essays taken from a weekly newspaper column published in the Washington County News, Washington, Kansas. Look for my book, "Dispatches From Kansas," available from Amazon.com, or from the author.
These are all some good photos, but I'm really drawn to the photo of the house with the bales in front of it. Not sure why, maybe because the house is hidden just a bit behind the bales or maybe it is the way the bales pull you right into the house. Either way, great shot! Something I don't think a lot of photographers (me very much included) would have seen.
Thanks, Scott. I walked around the house and found the bales added a dimension otherwise lacking from other angles. Ditto for the photo of the house with the red machinery in front of it. Wish I'd had more time today but I found several interesting spots I'm going to try to get permission to access.
I've come back a couple of times and when I took a vote, "me", "myself" and "I" all voted for the last photo - the lemon-yellow light did it. The others are nice, but I'll take good light over good composition anytime ;-)
