Not knowing much about photography,if I had to choose I'd say I like the one on top better, though they are both good. The green of the grass "pops" more, and there is something about the train.

I would choose the one on top. There's a little too much room on the left side of the train in the lower image. The train on top also has a more physical presence than the lower shot.

Yes the grass pops in the top picture. I like the bottom as the grass blend better with the dead weed stalks. It is how the grass looks now.
Great train picute!

I like the top one, too. The front of the engine hits that "one-third" composition mark in the frame, as does the bridge.

I like the top photo better because of the contrast and the cropping. (It is the same photo, right?) Bringing the train further to the front of the photo makes it seem more powerful.

Looks like the top photo wins. I originally worried that it took up too much of the frame, but the more I look at it, the more I prefer it. The train was going about 65 MPH when it sailed past. Too bad there wasn't a big-ass plume of steam... I appreciate the suggestions.

Hate to be the dissenter, but I prefer the bottom photo - it gives the train some space to move forward in the frame. That being said I would crop a smidgen off the left of the bottom photo because there's a bit TOO much room.

Cheryl -- That was my thinking, too. However, wouldn't cropping have about the same result as the top photo--only a little less so? I'll ponder on it. I also have a new version to upload to further puzzle my valiant readers.

I definitely prefer the bottom photo. In the larger version especially, there's just too much train. My eye lands first at the car behind the engine rather than the engine itself. I might do some post-processing to highlight the engine, too - like a focal soften. But I like to mess with photos. ;-)

Still like the second better.

And here's something funny - the verification word of the day is: PRIZE! It's an omen!
