Essays taken from a weekly newspaper column published in the Washington County News, Washington, Kansas. Look for my book, "Dispatches From Kansas," available from Amazon.com, or from the author.
If I could afford it, I'd have a whole wall of your photos. But since I can't I chose Day 36, the third photo down of the river with gravel in the foreground. All rivers, large & small, whisper secrets to me from their past. They spark a childlike wonder in me because my imagination runs wild. You captured this river's mystery perfectly here -- the wear and tear of ages along its banks, the respite provided by trees and water for human and wild creatures. Gosh, sure do hope I win one your photos because they all have stories to tell.
