Thanks for the comment! I tend to think in black and white and when I saw that boulder I knew what I wanted. In color, though, the image just didn't work. I tried everything to make it look good, but only when I switched to black and white did it come together. If you're interested in technical details, I did most of the post-processing in Nik's Silver Efex Pro.
I like it a lot. As a photographer, I found myself saying, "I wish I'd taken that shot", so you know it's good if it inspires creative envy. As far as the location, a great place to visit, I'd love to be there right now. I remember camping along the river at the bottom of the canyon, feeling vulnerable in a sleeping bag without a tent. But a windstorm came during the night at blew away the tent of the folks nearby, so I guess I was saved the trouble of having to chase down a tent. Good photo. mwc
