Essays taken from a weekly newspaper column published in the Washington County News, Washington, Kansas. Look for my book, "Dispatches From Kansas," available from Amazon.com, or from the author.
No one in Kansas writes about nature as beautifully as Tom Parker, and his journal about finding the headwaters of Kings Creek in the Konza Prairie has ended in another triumph--both in writing style and in accomplishing the trek itself. Because he lived to tell the tale, I had assumed over the past few weeks while reading about the journey, that it would end in success. The surprise was the interweaving of the old Gospel tune, "Shall We Gather at the River?" Delightful! And, darn it, now I can't get that tune out of my mind!
