Essays taken from a weekly newspaper column published in the Washington County News, Washington, Kansas. Look for my book, "Dispatches From Kansas," available from Amazon.com, from the author or Town Crier Bookstore, 716 Commercial, Emporia.
If I could afford it, I'd have a whole wall of your photos. But since I can't I chose Day 36, the third photo down of the river with gravel in the foreground. All rivers, large & small, whisper secrets to me from their past. They spark a childlike wonder in me because my imagination runs wild. You captured this river's mystery perfectly here -- the wear and tear of ages along its banks, the respite provided by trees and water for human and wild creatures. Gosh, sure do hope I win one your photos because they all have stories to tell.
