Maybe it's not completely gone.... I've seen them fall over, looking gone to the world, only to have shoots start coming up right out of the bark after the weather warms up. If it's a special tree you might try taking a couple of cuttings and plunking them in water in a sunny window. Of course, we're especially fond of willows :) -Streamhopper
